For example, if you ask my mom she will tell you I'm the most picky eater there is -- and I'm definitely NOT. I just don't like FAKE meat, FAKE veggies, FAKE anything. What I mean is when my mom had a long day at work and comes home -- she may throw something in the oven that you can heat up & make. Salisbury steak. WHAT IS THAT?! I don't even want to know. Ground beef - GROSS. Beef isn't meant to be ground.
Also, I always look at the Ingredients labeled on the back of things.. a lot of these things are added to "maintain freshness". Don't get me wrong, I like that I'm eating something "fresh" but I'd rather not have all that mumbo jumbo in my system. BUT...I eat it anyway. Why? Because I'm hungry.
Hunger can toy with your emotions.. just ask my boyfriend. When I'm hungry, I'm cranky. So, do I run to the local farmers market, produce store, health food store, and buy a bunch of fresh ingredients to make a nice chemical free meal -- or do I run to Acme and get all the stuff I need? The ladder. I'm shaking my head at myself as I type.
I agree with Berry when he states that we should support our local farmers -- and I do shop at my local produce junction, Stella's farm (best corn), Rosie's farm, etc -- but we live in New Jersey. It snows, it hails, it rains, etc. What then? Starve? Stock up? -- without the presevatives, will it last? Hmm.
All in all, I wish to support local farming -- BUT all the time? Is that a reasonable statement?
